Prosecutor praised for saving a girl who suffers seizure
Almost 16 years after helping a little girl, a local prosecutor bears witness to the difference he made in her life that day.
When Maria Banda was just one year and four months old, a prosecutor saved her life. Now, at 17, Maria thanks him for saving her life that day and shows him that it was not in vain.
Magdeline, Maria’s mom explained she and Maria’s father were at the Randfontein Magistrate’s Court on July 8, 2008, when Maria fainted. Prosecutor Mzolisa Madolo noticed the child in trouble and immediately stopped the proceedings. He then rushed Maria to the private clinic nearby in his car and also paid for her medicine as the family could not afford it. They determined she had an epileptic seizure.
“Thank you to this man. I don’t know what would’ve happened if he wasn’t there,” said Magdeline.
On December 12, Maria, now finished with Grade 12, along with her family members visited Mzolisa at the court to thank him for saving her life that day. They showed him all of her accomplishments in school and gave him a token of their appreciation.
Mzolisa said, “Thank you, I am touched and I am happy I was there to help. We try to help people and we are grateful when they come back and show we made a difference. I am so proud of Maria for making something of her life.”
Maria explained she wanted to be a prosecutor when she was younger, but has since decided to go into medicine so she can save others.
“I want to thank Mzolisa so much for everything that he has done. He has been my role model,” said Maria.
