Hoarder’s home of horrors: SPCA intervenes in shocking case of neglect

The RandWest SPCA was forced to remove neglected animals from a Hekpoort property after seeing the shocking conditions its animals had to endure.

The RandWest SPCA has executed its first warrant this year while investigating a property in Hekpoort, believed to belong to a hoarder.

The SPCA posted the horrifying details of the case on social media on January 14, stating that concerns were raised about animals living in terrible conditions on the property.

“Cats were dying one after the other and the situation was nothing short of devastating,” the post read.

The SPCA also stated earlier that 17 severely ill cats were surrendered by the owner whereafter she was given a warning to improve the living conditions of the remaining animals on her property. However, the SPCA executed a follow-up inspection and was disappointed to find that the living conditions remained the same.

Consequently, the post read a warrant was obtained by the SPCA to remove the animals from the property.

“The priority above all else is ensuring the well-being of the animals. The conditions these animals were forced to endure – suffering from massive parasite infestations and drinking water contaminated with maggots – were nothing less than neglect and abuse. This will not be excused,” the post continued.

Furthermore, the post also emphasised the emotional impact that hoarder cases have, stating that they stem from mental disorders in which owners believe they are doing the best for their animals.
