Feed the Need Soup Kitchen reaches out once again

Community member continues to make a difference in the lives of the community's children.

Feed the Need Soup Kitchen continues its mission of reaching out to the community to help those in need.

Koekie Allie, founder of the soup kitchen, explained that January 14 was the last day before the children returned to school. They had many children to feed as the children who regularly come also brought their friends and family visiting for the festive season.

What started as a good deed on Mandela Day when they baked vetkoek for the children has now grown into the soup kitchen.

“My desire is just to cook a plate of food for a child. That is what I always had in mind when I started the soup kitchen,” Koekie said.

She added in December and on Mother’s Day, they clean the food tins and fill and decorate them with sweets which they then hand out to the senior citizens.

She noted they ask for dry ingredients so they can cook for the community’s children, which is the most important thing for them.
