Health code violations force spaza shop’s closure
Local spaza shop closed following multiple health code violations.
The Myburgh Foundation was on the scene of a health inspection at a local spaza shop where they found multiple health code violations, including rat droppings and cat litter.
According to the founder of the Myburgh Foundation, Randy Christian, a Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) health practitioner conducted a random compliance inspection at a local spaza shop recently.
Christian mentioned this followed after the shopkeeper failed to heed multiple warnings to ensure proper pest control management.

“Upon inspection of the premises, rat droppings were evident on the shelves as well as behind the refrigerator. A box of used cat litter was noticed whereafter the practitioner advised that no animals are permitted in the shop. The practitioner also stated the shopkeeper is not allowed to sleep in the shop in terms of the health regulations,” he said.
“It’s not only expired products that are a concern but also pest control measurements. We will intensify our efforts to mitigate these risks to the public as it’s one of our humanitarian mandates.”
