Snake sightings has Elandsvlei on their toes
A plot owner in Elandsvlei reveals that he has had four Rinkhals encounters in just two weeks.

As Elandsvlei residents are growing more concerned about an increase in snake sightings.
One resident who lives on a plot in the area spoke out about his experiences with a Rinkhals recently. Riaan Venters said in just the past two weeks, he encountered four snakes. In 2024, he encountered two Rinkhals and two mole snakes.
“I stepped right next to a Rinkhals. The other two Rinkhals’ were encountered by my workers. We live on a plot, so we do see snakes regularly,” he said.

“I’m not scared of snakes as long as I do not step on one and it attacks me. The heat causes snakes to come out since they are coldblooded and become more active in a heated environment,” he added.
Further, Riaan advised on how to keep snakes at bay.
“Keep the environment tidy and cut the grass regularly. Try to make sure that you limit the amount of pests such as mice because they attract snakes. Ultimately, there is no such thing as snake repellent or plants that keep snakes away. So, it is best to keep the environment as tidy as possible.”
He also stated that snakes do not affect them negatively as long as they do not invade their home or hurt their children and pets.
