Overhead bridge removed after nearly 50 years
An engineering, construction and electrical company and friends successfully removed an overhead bridge on Main Reef Road.
An overhead bridge on Main Reef Road in Homelake was removed due to safety risks.
On February 15, Electrotech Electrical Contractors removed the overhead bridge while sections of the road were temporarily closed and traffic diverted.
Electrotech, owned by Willem van Wyk, a long-time Randfontein resident, led the project of removing the deteriorating structure.
“The bridge was originally constructed to transport steam from a company’s boilers to another company via overhead pipes. However, it had remained unused for about 15 years and had corroded due to exposure to the elements posing a potential safety hazard over the busy road,” Willem said.
“We thank God for His grace in keeping everyone safe throughout the operation. A special thank you to the dedicated workers of Electrotech, whose skill and hard work ensured a smooth and successful removal. We also appreciate Chimes for their assistance in the lifting operations,” he concluded.
