Myburgh Foundation reach out to refugees in town
A Refugee and Asylum Seeker Assistance Committee has been commissioned by the Myburgh Foundation.
The Myburgh Foundation has commissioned a Refugee and Asylum Seeker Assistance Committee (RASAC) to assist foreign nationals with guidance on various challenges.
This is according to the legal representative of the foundation, Clive Copsey. He added the example of Section 22 and Section 24 permits via the Department of Home Affairs as well as the recent challenges of shop registration before the deadline of February 28. Copsey mentioned this is a big obstacle for foreign nationals.
“Some of the foreign shopkeepers have already spent close to R15 000 each on municipal fee requirements and are still not receiving the necessary certificate due to regulation changes that are not being communicated.
“We aim to bridge the gap between the two parties and ensure foreign-owned shops are compliant and adhering to bylaws. The RASAC aims to advocate for the rights of refugees and asylum seekers – bearing in mind that the laws have to be obeyed at all times.
“This forms part of our Welfare and Humanitarian Mandate under schedule nine in part two of the Income Tax Act 58 of 1962,” Copsey expressed.
