Radio angels deliver R70k lifeline to RandWest SPCA

Good Morning Angels donated R70 000 to help the SPCA upgrade the security and continue caring for animals.

The RandWest SPCA shared their sincere appreciation after Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels donated much-needed funds to assist with their security needs.

The SPCA is currently home to about 300 animals, and they tackle more than 40 cases of abuse every month.

In light of the SPCA’s growing concern about the need for security at both the Randfontein and Westonaria branches, Good Morning Angels decided to step in and fund the R45 000 needed for security. The additional R25 000 was donated to help the SPCA cover their expenses, including vet bills and food.

As an extra show of support, Warm Fest 2025, an initiative by Jacaranda FM’s Martin Bester and the Round Table, donated 100 blankets, ensuring every kennel (60 dogs and 40 cats) is prepared for the winter.

“As someone who deeply loves animals, it breaks my heart to know what some of them endure. We created Warm Fest to bring comfort to both people and animals during the coldest months.

It’s an honour to support SPCA RandWest and help them continue their amazing work,” Martin Bester, host of Jacaranda FM’s Breakfast With Martin Bester, said.

The Randfontein Herald reached out to RandWest SPCA inspector and manager René van Straten to hear how this donation has affected the SPCA and its animals.

“We are so thankful. Without these donations, we cannot continue doing our jobs,” she expressed.

They are focusing on upgrading the security systems to help ensure the safety of the staff and animals.

“The areas in which our office is located are very unsafe and vulnerable to criminal activity. Finances are taking a heavy toll on everyone. The number of animals we take in is only increasing, and the financial strain on everyone is only getting heavier. This type of work is challenging every day. It’s not nice to see animals being abused every day.

But no matter how exhausting it can be sometimes, if we don’t stand up for our animals, who will? So, we gather our strength and tackle each day to the best of our ability,” she concluded.
