Women in transport celebrated over lunch

Women in the transport industry were spoiled with a lunch by local businessperson.

Local businessperson OJ Tsaone once again spoiled women, particularly those in transport, to mark Mother’s Day with a lavish lunch function at Lacoste Inn.

“It’s always a pleasure to host and honour women, especially hard workers like Seipati Maphunye, a fellow driving school owner who is one of the few women in the industry. It is important to have a woman in this field in the wake of GBV against women and young girls,” said OJ.

Seipati added that it is inspiring to gather as women and was excited to have fellow women in transport, Kefilwe Motlhasedi and Rose Sedibe, from the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO), part of this occasion.

“We feel so elated to have been invited to this occasion. We share the same sentiment with Seipati about the male-dominated transport industry. We are from the throat-cut taxi industry.

We at times are caught up in the middle of taxi violence by rival organisations, and we have to come in to douse the situation from being out of control,” Kefilwe said.

Rose reiterated that women in the taxi industry use prayer to calm conflicts, like mothers do.

“We also embark on community projects where we buy uniforms for needy learners,” she added.
