One such individual is Vuyo Boloi, an artist from Munsieville who draws inspiration from his surroundings. He is not only a talented music producer but also a skilled visual artist.

“I am not your stereotypical artist, I love to create anything around me. I do set design, fashion styling, artistic photography, art direction, cinematography, poetry and many more. I am inspired by my environment and the life around it,” Vuyo remarked.

Vuyo expressed that he has achieved a lot in terms of the impact he has had on his community through his art form. He adds that his main goal through his art is to assist other aspiring artists by giving them exposure as well as finding opportunities.

I have collaborated with other artists, not just here in Munsieville but also all over Gauteng. I don’t have a favourite artist because most artists lose their inner being by following other people’s paths, so I would rather pave my way and assist others to find their voice.”

In the long term, he hopes to help local artists to be given more opportunities in the art industry, hence he started a movement called the Black Art First Media. With this initiative, he hopes to provide studio equipment and opportunities for artists from poor and low-income backgrounds.

“There is a vast number of genres of arts in Munsieville, the problem is we are not given the chance to expose them and their art forms specifically in Munsieville because most of the attention is given to Kagiso so I took it upon myself to stand up since we have been lacking with instruments to carry on with our projects. I believe our stories will capture and inspire other individuals,” Vuyo concluded.
