Mohlakeng residents enter day 3 without power
Eskom technicians are testing oil samples from an affected transformer to determine the cause of the fault and establish what is needed to restore power.
Residents are now facing a third day without electricity, with households and businesses growing increasingly frustrated as Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) awaits further information from Eskom.
RWCLM spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa confirmed that Eskom technicians inspected the affected transformer on Wednesday, August 12, and collected oil samples for testing.

According to Montshiwa, the technicians were also travelling to Carletonville to collect additional samples. All the samples are expected to be analysed in Johannesburg.
“The test results will be used to identify the cause of the transformer fault and determine the steps required to restore electricity to the affected area,” he said.

Montshiwa said the municipality remains on standby and is ready to assist Eskom’s technical team should further work be required.
No estimated time for the restoration of electricity has been provided.
Montshiwa said further updates would be issued as soon as information is received from Eskom.
