Community urged to help Toekomsrus house fire victims

A 73-year-old grandmother and her family are pleading for assistance after a blaze left them homeless.

A family has been left destitute after a devastating fire destroyed their home on August 23.

Martha Pietersen (73), along with her children and grandchildren, lost everything after a fire gutted their home. Luckily, no one was injured during the blaze, and the cause is still unknown.

Pietersen explained that the entire house was engulfed, and they lost all their furniture, clothing, and do not even have food. The worst loss, however, was the only family photo she owned of her grandchildren. They all now sleep outside the home along with the family dogs.

She has lived in the house since 1977, and her children were all born and raised there.

They are appealing to the community to help them with any donations, including supplies to restore the home.
