Severely injured Aureus dog shows unbroken spirit

Rescuers say Jessie-Alara, a pit bull mix found in Aureus, is fighting to recover after suffering severe neglect and injuries.

Jessie-Alara, a pit bull mix, is currently receiving treatment for serious injuries after she was found at a business in Aureus.

Volunteer Clarisse Kruger stated they received a call about the dog that wandered into a business property on August 21.

“The photos we received of her were shocking; the condition this poor animal was in was heartbreaking. She was severely malnourished, with deep wounds on both sides of her face and an ear that was barely attached. The wound had already started to rot,” explained Clarisse.

One of the directors, Stephan Hendricks, immediately went to the property, and despite all she had been through, Jessie showed no signs of aggression. Instead, she wagged her tail at everyone, including the dog on the property. She was immediately taken to the vet for treatment.

“We may never know what she’s been through, but we do know one thing: Jessie deserves a second chance. Letting her go would have been the easier choice, but her gentle spirit made it clear she wants to live, get well and experience love,” said Clarisse.

Jessie is currently still at the vet receiving treatment. Her wounds are being cleaned, and they found there is still blood flow to her ear, so there is a chance that it can be saved. She is also receiving treatment for pain and infection. On August 26, she underwent her first operation, and Clarisse added that she is doing well.

“Her road to recovery is still long, but Jessie has already shown she is a true fighter. We are committed to walking every step of this journey with her, until she is completely healthy and ready for the loving, permanent home she so deserves.

“She has been through so much pain and suffering, and yet her spirit remains unbroken. Instead of fear or aggression, Jessie greets every person she sees with soft eyes, a wagging tail and love. She is truly one beautiful dog with a very soft heart,” Clarisse noted.

She added that Jessie would need the perfect home, and they would do everything they could to find her that home. She loves people and enjoys attention, but they are not sure how she is with other dogs or cats.

Any person who would like to contribute to Jessie’s treatment can contact No More Tears on 084 433 7748.

“A big thank you to everyone who has made a donation to our vet bills, called, or sent Jessie a message. Your support was truly overwhelming,” concluded Clarisse.
