Youth mentorship camp targets at-risk boys

A new youth camp in Toekomsrus will mentor boys away from gangs, substance abuse and crime this October.

In response to rising crime and gangsterism in Toekomsrus, the Myburgh Foundation is setting up another youth camp for the October school holidays, this time exclusively for boys.

Besides the foundation’s annual Cape Town Youth Camp, they will be offering another camp much closer to home.

Randy Christian, founder, said the camp will be much more accessible to attract teenagers who are involved in crime.

“This youth camp aims to mentor boys and to motivate them to steer away from being lured into gang activity and substance use,” Randy explained.

He added that the camp will commence over three days to allow mentorship, team building exercises and spiritual intervention.

Various motivational speakers will also be engaging with the children over the course to help them focus on mental and physical health.

“We believe this camp will strengthen their mind to help them avoid being pressured into doing wrong. The objective is to steer these at-risk teenagers onto a productive and God fearing path. That way we can create a safer community that is free from gang activity, gun violence and substance abuse,” Randy continued.
