Half a century of care celebrated in style at Connie’s
The Connie Mulder Centre celebrated its 50th anniversary with a festive masquerade ball filled with music, food and community spirit.
The Connie Mulder Centre, a place that has cared for and supported adults with disabilities for five decades, marked its 50th anniversary with a memorable community celebration.
The centre first opened its doors on 20 September 1975, and exactly 50 years later, on the same date this year, staff, residents, parents and friends gathered for a masquerade ball to honour the milestone.

CEO Elona Uys said they wanted to create an event where the wider community could join in. The hall was beautifully decorated with balloons, finger food was served, and lively music by Elona’s friend, Chris Vermeulen, set the tone for an evening of joy.

Elona explained that the centre is home to 208 adults with disabilities, while 19 dayworkers participate in its workshops. Planning for the anniversary began last year, intending to make it a celebration to remember. Décor was arranged by the chairperson of the management team, Elbie Botha, and the stage was painted by children and personnel.
Around 50 guests attended, including loyal clients, management and parents of residents.
“Thank you to every person’s support; without you, it wouldn’t have been a success,” said Elona.
