Brave Thomas celebrates second chance at life

After surviving a brutal dog attack and 10 weeks of treatment, Thomas is finally home with his loving new owner, ready for a fresh start.

After 10 weeks of treatment at Randfontein Animal Hospital, Thomas the Jack Russel is finally on his way home, where he can run freely and enjoy quality time with his new owner, Contor Yebele.

On July 14, the Randfontein Herald reported on Thomas, who sustained serious injuries after a brutal attack by other dogs. Now, after a lengthy recovery, Thomas and his new owner, who saved his life by taking him to the vet when his owner at the time wouldn’t, are on their way home.

Volunteer at No More Tears Animal Rescue, Clarisse Kruger, explained that Thomas had a large open wound on his tail, but after dedicated care, he made a full recovery. The rescue also ensured Thomas was neutered and microchipped before he went home.

“Thomas was overjoyed to see his owner again, and Contor was just as excited that he could finally come home. Although Contor visited him regularly, Friday was something special as Thomas realised he was going home. Contor promised to treat him to a nice piece of steak, which is more than deserved after his long road of recovery,” said Clarisse.

While at home, Contor still needs to keep an eye on him and ensure he receives the right care.

“The vet did an excellent job, and Thomas healed really well,” added Clarisse.

Most importantly, Thomas will receive plenty of love and spoils at home.

“Our hearts are truly grateful to everyone who contributed to Thomas’ treatment. The past 10 weeks have been extremely difficult for him, but thanks to your support, he has now been given a precious second chance. Every animal deserves such second chances. A big thank you to the incredible staff at Randfontein Animal Hospital for their love and care for Thomas,” concluded Clarisse.
