Major traffic operation set for Gauteng roads until Oct 25

Motorists are warned to expect temporary road closures and delays during a joint traffic operation across Gauteng from October 24 to 25.

A joint traffic operation will take place from today, October 24, to tomorrow across all major roadways in Gauteng.

Road Safety Education Unit spokesperson, Obed Sibasa, confirmed a co-ordinated road traffic operation between the Road Traffic Management Corporation, Gauteng Traffic Police, Metro Police and the police. The operation will result in temporary road closures and lane restrictions.

On October 24, the operation will run until 13:00. On October 25, it will take place from 08:00 to 10:00 and again from 13:00 to 14:30.

Sibasa said this will affect major national and regional roads, and motorists are advised to use alternative routes.

“Motorists are encouraged to plan, allow additional travel time, and consider alternative routes where possible. These measures are essential to enhance public safety, ensure traffic law compliance, and support ongoing enforcement initiatives,” Sibasa added.

He continued that road signs and traffic officers will be in place to guide road users, and access for emergency and essential services will be prioritised.

“We are working together for safer roads,” Sibasa concluded.
