Do More Foundation reaches out to daycare and preschool

Through their initiative, the Do More Foundation hopes to make a difference in the lives of the next generation.

Thanks to the help of the Do More Foundation (DMF), Dumela Day Care and Preschool can start a new chapter that will help their children grow.

Rebotile Matoane, regional co-ordinator for early childhood development at the foundation, explained that the daycare centre first opened its doors in 2019 in Munster. It was started by principal Lenah Pulane Lebitsa and administrator Isaac Oupa Mokgele.

“The daycare was born out of a response to the growing number of abandoned and vulnerable young children in the area. The centre began operating from a small shack and quickly became a safe haven for local families. Lenah and her husband supported children through a feeding scheme and by providing toys and care, driven by a deep desire to make a difference,” added Rebotile.

With time, they moved to the Affri Village Mega Project and grew to where they now cater to 42 children, between the ages of two and six. They, however, still had trouble with structures from which to teach and access to sanitation for the learners.

Along with Breadline South Africa, the DMF reached out after a site visit confirmed the daycare is a deserving site for infrastructure support. On November 18, the DMF officially handed over two new classrooms, learning and teaching materials, four children’s toilets and a JoJo water tank.

“These improvements ensure that children now have a safe, stimulating environment in which to learn and play,” said Rebotile.

“Seeing the transformation at the daycare has been incredibly inspiring. What started as a small centre with big dreams is now a place where children can learn and play safely every day. It’s a powerful reminder of what’s possible when passionate people like Lenah are supported with the right resources and when communities, partners, and organisations work together to give children a stronger start in life.”

They also plan to continue helping the day care centre with nutrition initiatives, capacity building, and parent and caregiver support. All in the hopes of strengthening both the centre and the community.
