Recycling and upcycling are her talents
Octavia Pinkies Msingatha’s upcycling talent has earned her an award at the recent Hollywood Bets Bombela Business Awards.
Not only has Octavia Pinkies Msingatha mastered the art of pottery, but she has also earned recognition for her upcycling skills, recently taking home an award as the only West Rand resident on the podium.
She won the accolade at the Hollywood Bets Bombela Business Awards held at the OR Tambo Airport Hotel, where she was recognised for her paper crafting in décor design.
Octavia recycles used paper to create decorative crafts.
“I tried many things, like when I bought antique furniture that I refurbished for resale, but I only began seeing growth and potential in 2018 in the paper décor business. Since then, I never looked back,” she said.
“I intend to spread this craft in the community to get the interest of the youth, women and the elderly.”
She said she regularly displays her work at exhibitions in malls, outdoor markets and various other venues.
“Proceeds from what I received at the awards came in handy to help purchase equipment, like a stove that can help during the creative process when there is no sun to dry the wet paper,” she explained.
Octavia added that she hopes to take her craft to the next level and help make Mohlakeng an attraction for art and craft businesses.
