Blikskud brings hope to RandWest SPCA animals

After a surge in animal intakes during December, the RandWest SPCA is appealing to the community for much-needed support.

The RandWest SPCA held their first ‘blikskud’ charity event of the year in the hope of collecting enough donations to support the vital work they do.

Committee member Brenda Eloff said the ‘blikskud’ was a huge success, raising R3 900, and expressed her gratitude to the community for their continued support.

She noted that although this was their first ‘blikskud’ of the year, the organisation plans to host one every month going forward.

“Our finances are currently under pressure following the December rush. Despite receiving a large donation from a company, we only had enough funds to cover salaries,” said Eloff.

The SPCA still has outstanding petrol and veterinary bills, as well as cleaning supplies that urgently need to be purchased. Eloff explained that the funds raised during the ‘blikskud’ will be used to cover one of these essential expenses. The organisation is also in urgent need of dog food.

Eloff added that the RandWest SPCA currently has only four committee members and is appealing for additional volunteers. Anyone interested in serving on the committee can email chairman@spcarandwest.co.za.
