Man found dead near Bundu Inn stream
A man’s body was recovered near a stream in Mohlakeng on Sunday. Police have opened an inquest docket to investigate the drowning.
Emergency teams recovered the body of an adult man near Bundu Inn in Mohlakeng on Sunday, February 22.
According to Rapid Response spokesperson Raymond Sambo, divers from the Johannesburg Water Policing and Diving Services, a unit of the police responsible for water search-and-rescue operations, were deployed at about 13:30 after residents reported the incident.
Upon arrival, divers located the victim floating in a body of water near a stream where illegal mining activities occur.
“The body was handed over to Mohlakeng police for further investigation,” Sambo said.

He confirmed that police have opened an inquest docket to determine the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
Sambo urged community members to avoid entering dams, rivers and other deep water without proper safety precautions, including wearing a life jacket.
“Drownings remain a persistent risk across Gauteng’s rivers, dams and reservoirs, particularly during warm weather and after rainfall,” he said.
