Westgold LSEN learners share powerful Human Rights message
LSEN learners at Westgold used colourful artwork to share powerful messages about dignity, equality, and every child’s right to be heard.
Learners at Laerskool Westgold Primary School are using creativity to reflect on the values that unite communities and remind people of the rights every child deserves.
According to school spokesperson Mariska du Plessis, the initiative forms part of the school’s Values in Education (VIE) activities, coinciding with Human Rights Day on March 21. As part of the project, Learners with Special Educational Needs (LSEN) shared their understanding of human rights through colourful and thoughtful artwork.

She said the drawings highlight important rights such as dignity, equality, safety, education and the right for every child to be heard, showing how even the youngest members of the community can express powerful messages.
“The activity formed part of the school’s efforts to help learners understand the importance of human rights in a simple and meaningful way. Learners are encouraged to share their thoughts and feelings about respect, kindness and fairness,” Mariska said.

Teachers and staff at the school said they are incredibly proud of the learners for expressing such meaningful ideas in their own unique way.
“Human Rights Month commemorates the importance of equality, dignity and freedom for all. Initiatives like this help learners not only understand these values but also share them with their families and the wider community. Through their drawings and messages, the learners once again proved that even small voices can carry powerful messages of hope, respect and unity,” Mariska concluded.
