RandWest SPCA says goodbye to dedicated animal welfare champion

After serving since 2018, Rene van Straten will leave the RandWest SPCA on April 24 to relocate to KZN, leaving behind a strong legacy in animal welfare.

The RandWest SPCA is saying goodbye to its manager and inspector, Rene van Straten, who will step down from her role and relocate to KZN.

Van Straten joined the famous animal welfare organisation in January 2018 as an inspector, dedicating herself to protecting and caring for animals in the Rand West community. Over the years, her commitment, compassion, and hands-on approach made her a well-known and respected figure among colleagues and residents.

In November 2023, she was promoted to manager in recognition of her hard work and leadership. In this position, she oversaw daily operations while remaining actively involved in animal welfare interventions, helping ensure the organisation continued its mission of preventing cruelty and promoting responsible pet ownership.

Her time at the SPCA included numerous rescues, community outreach efforts, and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable animals.

Committee member Brenda Eloff said it had been an honour to work with Van Straten, praising her dedication and deep love for animals, which consistently went above and beyond. She added that the team wishes her well in her future endeavours.

Van Straten’s final day at the RandWest SPCA will be April 24, marking the end of an important chapter in her career. While her departure signals a significant change for the organisation, her contributions have left a lasting impact on both the team and the community.

As she begins a new chapter, the RandWest SPCA and the wider community have expressed their gratitude for her years of service and unwavering commitment to animal welfare.
