Droogeheuwel blasting rescheduled after weather disruption

Blasting at the Droogeheuwel Mega Civil Project has been delayed by rainfall, with strict safety measures in place ahead of operations at the Bulk Sewer Line.

Blasting operations at the Droogeheuwel Mega Civil Project have been delayed due to recent rainfall, with work at the Bulk Sewer Line now expected to proceed once site conditions are safe.

Residents and stakeholders have been notified of the planned blasting, which forms part of ongoing infrastructure development in the area.

According to blasting contractor Andre Myburgh, operations were initially scheduled to begin yesterday, May 6, and continue until Saturday. However, work was postponed on the first day due to wet conditions, which affected safety readiness. Preparations are currently underway to ensure the site is ready in the coming days.

Blasting activities are expected to take place between 14:00 and 16:00, with strict safety protocols in place to protect workers and the public. Warning signals will be issued ahead of each blast, including a siren sounding five minutes before detonation.

The surrounding area will be fully evacuated during blasting. Flagmen equipped with danger boards will secure the site and prevent access, beginning at least 30 minutes before each blast to ensure all individuals are moved to a safe distance.

Community members are urged to take note of warning signals and adhere to all safety instructions during the scheduled blasting periods. The project team emphasised that these measures are necessary to ensure operations are conducted safely and efficiently.

The Droogeheuwel Mega Civil Project forms part of broader efforts to improve essential infrastructure, with the Bulk Sewer Line playing a key role in supporting future development.
