Dads take centre stage at Hillshaven Library celebration

An afternoon of music, laughter and learning in Westonaria celebrated the invaluable role fathers play in the community.

Hillshaven Library brought the community together to celebrate fatherhood during a special Father’s Day event held recently in the Laerskool Modderfontein Primary School hall.

According to Hillshaven Library supervisor Lydia van Aswegen, the event was organised to honour and celebrate fathers in the community, creating a warm and festive atmosphere filled with entertainment, education and family spirit.

Guests enjoyed a memorable musical performance by Luchelle van Niekerk, who dedicated several songs to the fathers in attendance. Thys van Niekerk kept the audience entertained as master of ceremonies, hosting a variety of fun-filled games that had both participants and spectators laughing throughout the programme.

One of the highlights of the day was a heartwarming performance by children from Kagisano Day Care. Their special item delighted the audience, showcasing their young talent and adding a meaningful touch to the celebration.

Lydia also presented an informative session on the library’s services. She further highlighted the important role that reading and libraries play in building strong, informed communities and encouraged residents to make use of the library’s resources.

“The event reflected the importance of community initiatives that celebrate family values while promoting education. Hillshaven Library continues to play a key role in fostering learning and strengthening community unity,” she said.

Lydia concluded by thanking the event’s sponsors and stakeholders for their generous contributions, including Luchelle and Thys van Niekerk and their family, Francina Moloi of Kagisano Day Care, Modderfontein Primary School principal Alex Reed, and Africa Bakery and Meat for donating the food.
