Spring Walk combines fitness and learning at Avantè
Laerskool Avantè learners took part in a 7km spring walk to stay fit and healthy.
To celebrate the arrival of spring, Laerskool Avantè hosted a 7km walk, combining celebration with a test of endurance for the learners.
According to educator Lelo Chabalala, this event was part of the learners’ Physical Education Training subject. She added that the weather was perfect for the day, which made the experience enjoyable.
She added, geographical knowledge also took part in the walk, seeing as learners were educated about directions, natural vegetation and distances. Their history skills were also refined when they had the opportunity to walk past a cemetery where prominent residents were buried.
“Events like these contribute to learners’ physical health, can can quickly develop their knowledge by observing what they see,” Lelo said.
She further mentioned that all went well and learners seemed to regain their energy at the end of the walk.
“The highlight of the event was seeing learners running at the start, but the walk was far too demanding, and they ended up drained.”
