Learners evacuated after bomb threat at Laerskool Rapportryer, police respond
Police investigated a bomb threat at Laerskool Rapportryer, prompting an evacuation of learners and staff. After a thorough sweep by the K9 and Explosives Unit, the school was declared safe and the threat unfounded.
Police confirmed that a bomb threat was investigated at Laerskool Rapportryer yesterday, September 11.
Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said a call was received from the school at about 10:00 regarding the threat.
The police’s K9 and Explosives Unit responded promptly and conducted a sweep of the premises. After a thorough search, the school was declared safe.
CPF chairperson Ruan Sheppard said police were on the scene, and the school asked parents and guardians to fetch their children from the sports grounds. School bags were left locked in classrooms for safety reasons.

School principal André Kruger confirmed the threat was received via a telephone call.
“We take this type of threat with the utmost seriousness. The school management immediately activated our safety and emergency protocol,” he said.
He added that the school immediately contacted the authorities and the education department. The school was evacuated, and the property searched.
“Following a full investigation by the authorities, the threat was declared unfounded. No suspicious objects were found, and the police declared the school grounds safe. The safety and well-being of our learners and staff is and remains our absolute highest priority. We are proud of the calm and responsible manner in which our staff and learners handled the evacuation procedure,” Kruger said.
Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson Steve Mabona also confirmed the bomb scare. He said the admin block has been cordoned off for further investigation by the police.
“The department is committed to ensuring a safe school environment, conducive to effective learning and teaching,” Mabona said.
