Learners from Hoërskool Westonaria had the opportunity to sharpen their leadership skills and broaden their sense of civic responsibility during a Leadership Pipeline Workshop hosted by the school’s Inclusive Development Support Services (IDSS) in partnership with Youth Parliament.

The workshop, held on Tuesday, July 28, brought together members of the school’s Executive Representative Council of Learners (RCL), Eco Club and other learners for a day focused on leadership development, personal growth and active citizenship.

The initiative aimed to equip learners with practical leadership skills while encouraging them to become proactive contributors within their school and the wider community.

Facilitators from Youth Parliament led interactive sessions designed to build confidence and critical-thinking skills, while highlighting the importance of young people’s voices in shaping society. Learners were encouraged to reflect on their roles as leaders and the positive impact they can have within their communities.

The participation of Eco Club members further strengthened the workshop’s focus on responsibility, with discussions also covering environmental awareness and sustainable practices. These sessions reinforced the important role leadership plays in addressing both community and global challenges.

Teachers from the IDSS unit emphasised that initiatives such as the Leadership Pipeline Workshop are essential in developing well-rounded learners who are not only academically capable but also socially conscious and community-minded.

Hoërskool Westonaria continues to prioritise programmes that support learner development beyond the classroom, ensuring that young leaders are equipped to face future challenges with confidence and integrity.
