Free Maths and Science Camp prepares West Rand learners
Learners from across the West Rand gained confidence and skills at a free Maths and Science Camp hosted at Hoërskool Jan Viljoen High School.
Hoërskool Jan Viljoen High School hosted the annual West Rand Academia Mathematics and Science Camp during the recent October school holidays.
According to the founders of West Rand Academia, Thabo Mtika and Thembile Thungane, the camp was a great success, with 46 girls and 23 boys participating, mostly from public schools.

“The camp aligns with the National Development Plan 2030 of the Republic of South Africa and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal for Quality Education. Learners are now confident in their preparation for the final exams,” said Mtika.
The camp was offered free of charge to assist learners from disadvantaged communities on the West Rand.
“This programme would not have been possible without the support of Harmony, the Gauteng West District Education Executive Team, and Hoërskool Jan Viljoen High School, who hosted the camp. Of course, the parents also played a big role,” added Thungane.
