Load-shedding: This is all we ask for …

All we ask for is for load-shedding in Westonaria to be like in the rest of the country!

Regarding the online article with headline: Clarity on the power outage woes in R’fontein, the following …

The mayor’s comments make no sense. Firstly, both electrical department heads in Westonaria and Randfontein could not give clients a schedule and unscheduled power cuts continue on Monday, 3 February 2020.

The Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) is our service provider, not Eskom. The mayor’s excuses would only affect certain areas, not the entire town.

In Westonaria, the power was switched off three times within a 24-hour period – i.e. per day – on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. That’s not Stage 2; however, management has no answers … The mayor still has no answers …

RWCLM must publish load-shedding [alerts/ schedules] via social media asap; however, they can’t in Westonaria as Eskom switches off remotely, therefore council’s electricity staff, managers and even top managers can’t provide any info. RWCLM’s account is in arrears and Rand West City is being punished. The mayor has not addressed the problem or reassured customers that the issues are being sorted out.

Where I live, we are losing crops because we cannot irrigate if the power is interrupted three times per day (that’s 12 hours without power). It negatively affects yields. Generators are also too expensive to run 12 hours per day to irrigate.

The processing facility cannot work as each shift gets interrupted. Freezing compressors are also too expensive to run on generators 12 hours per day.

All we ask for is for load-shedding in Westonaria to be like in the rest of the country where Stage 2 has a national definition! Not 12 hours per day!

I called the municipal manager’s office to schedule an appointment to discuss the way forward as at this rate it’s not viable to stay open. The personal assistant advised they would call me back with an appointment time, but obviously it never happened …
