#FlashbackFriday: The style might be questionable, but the prices were perfect

Step back 35 years and see just how much life has changed in Randfontein. What do you remember of 1990?

Let’s take a trip back in time … to 1990.

Thirty-five years ago, the world looked a lot different in many ways, from fashion to hairstyles, and we can’t forget the ‘low’ prices of everyday items (wow … if only the prices stayed the same, the style… might be a different story).

Radios weren’t badly priced.

In the Randfontein Herald dated August 31, 1990, we saw Estelle Gautier asserting herself at a Business Woman’s lunch. Randfontein Chicken had great specials on a medium tray of eggs for R3.99. Now that’s a special!
Electronics were also a steal, with a sound system only costing you R46 per month. Pick and Pay also had very low prices that would make us fill multiple trollies in 2025.

The Service Centre in Randfontein raised R3 000 during their tea party for senior citizens. The year 1990 also saw the Westonaria magistrate’s office take top honours. Painless hair removal was also a trend during that year.

You could buy a car for R470.00 per month.

You could also buy a car for only R470 per month!

The Randfontein Rugby Club also lost their game against Roodepoort Rugby Club with a score of 11–6.
