Retired teachers show their good form

A number of former teachers showed that age is just a number when they participated in a number of outdoor excercises and activities on Wellness Day.

Having put away the ruler and chalk for good, a few former teachers showed that age is just a number when it came to exercise.

On Wellness Day, members of the West Rand Retired Teachers Association (Wreta) took part in some physical outdoor activities at the Patrick Ace Ntsoelengoe Stadium.

Before taking part in aerobics for a staggering 30 minutes, followed by a long walk and jog around the soccer field, a game of cards and table tennis, the former educators had to undergo a health check. This included testing their blood pressure, cholesterol and sugar levels by staff from Lenmed Hospital.

“Despite some very sore feet and bodies, we really had a good time,” said Machakane Masiza, a former teacher at Bekkersdal Maputle Primary School.

She added that it should happen more often.

Zachariah Lekgatlhe, Wreta chairperson and former teacher at Sedimosng Primary School, said it is interesting to see that the number of participants had increased this year.

“There is an improvement even in the number of members, which is great to see.”

Wreta was founded three years ago.
