Dancing queens on their way to fame

Dancers of the Melissa Badenhorst Dance Studio not only excelled at performing in 2018, but also helped to raise awareness for animal welfare.

Dancers from the Melissa Badenhorst Dance Studio have excelled in various activities recently.

Nicole Willemse, an advanced ballet student, recently had the privilege of performing in the South African State Theatre production of the opera Faust.

Nicole passed an audition held in co-operation with the Pretoria Symphony Orchestra and the South African State Theatre to dance in this well-known production. She said this was an amazing opportunity to work with renowned choreographers as well as world-famous Dutch conductor, Gerben Grooten.

“I learned that I had to give a lot more of myself as a dancer to perform on a stage of this scale – determination, hard work, and team effort made it all a big success”, Nicole said.

She said that she looks forward to representing the dance school in more productions in the future.

Another dancer, Gemma Botha, used her talents as a dancer to represent animal welfare, a cause very close to her heart. She represented the studio in a ‘Pointes and Paws’ photo-shoot recently, raising awareness for the SPCA and other animal shelters.

The studio is excited to have the opportunity to create more awareness in the near future.

Melissa is very proud of the students excelling not only in dance but various other fields.

“Each student is unique, with their own God-given talents, but one thing they all have in common is diligence, which dance teaches,” Melissa said.

“We are very proud and privileged to be involved with all these amazing students.”
