Winter is here! How to stay fitness-focused

If you're thinking of ditching the gym this winter ... think again, advised gym owner

If you’re thinking of ditching the gym this winter, you might want to change your mind because you’d be failing your body.

This is according to Billy Snyman, co-owner of Muscle and Fitness Academy, who said winter is the right season to work on your body and not let yourself go.

Billy admitted that people tend to have cheat meals and become lazy during the winter season. He said the key thing is to stay focused and never lose sight of achieving your goal – whether it is losing weight, gaining muscle or just staying fit.

“The problem is that during winter, people tend to indulge more and look for excuses not to go to gym. It’s quite easy because it’s cold, and they just want to get home and watch a bit of TV,” he said.

He added people need to understand that by taking time and investing in their bodies they will reap long-lasting benefits. “You’ll get what you put in; even when you get older you’ll see the difference,” he added.

Billy went on to say gyms can help people get rid of stress. Considering many are overwhelmed by Covid-19 and its effects, this might be good idea.

“When you do exercises like cardio, you feel a lot better and get rid of extra stress because your body releases hormones – blowing off steam is something even doctors recommend.”

Billy advised beginners to start by working out just 10 minutes at the gym, and they will get motivated as they go along.

“Start working on your body and take the time to invest in yourself because for the first few months guys like us will be there to guide you, motivate you and make sure that you’ve got an ideal work-out and diet programme.”

He said once people get into a routine, everything else will be much easier, depending on what their ultimate goal is.
