Spartans leave their karate mark in Bloemfontein
Spartans Karate Club in Westonaria impress at the SA Karate Championships in Bloemfontein.
Spartans Karate Club demonstrated steadfast dexterity and vigor when 11 of its athletes represented the dojo at the SA Karate Championships in Bloemfontein from September 15 to 17.
The 11 members from the club impressively bagged five gold, three silver and six bronze medals in the judicial capital which is a testament to their perseverance. The championship is probably the last of the 2023 karate season and Spartans Karate Club sensei Enzo Pillay said despite facing fierce competition, the dojo’s 11 karateka displayed exceptional skill.
“It was extremely difficult to achieve a medal at this event that had the best athletes from seven provinces. The athletes showed that they are capable of standing up and being counted when the pressure is on, and now want to test the international waters,” said Enzo.
Spartans Karate now sets its sights on its style activities, including its final grading for 2023.
The dojo is situated in the Westonaria Sports Complex and has students that belong to the local area and they are adamant that karate and sport in general is a solution to developing people into upstanding members of the community and keeping them off the streets.
“As the instructor, I feel extremely proud to have witnessed these athletes grow and develop into great students who will surely accomplish much more soon. It also gives me great confidence to be able to produce champions that will rule the world’s stage one day,” continued Enzo.
Spartans public relations officer Martin Venter concluded, “We hope to develop our students into well-rounded athletes who can defend themselves outside of the ring as well.”
