Clean sweep for Jan Viljoen rugby teams

From the U14s to the first team, the Jannas delivered a dominant performance on home turf, securing emphatic victories in every match and underlining their growing strength in schoolboy rugby.

Hoërskool Jan Viljoen High School produced a dominant showing across all age groups when they hosted Roodepark in a series of rugby fixtures on Friday afternoon and early evening, May 22, securing a clean sweep of victories.

Jannas set the tone early, with the U14 side opening proceedings with a solid 24–7 win. Their disciplined defence and clinical finishing laid the foundation for what would become a one-sided afternoon for the home teams.

Momentum continued to build as the U15s delivered a flawless performance, shutting out their opponents 36–0, followed by an equally impressive 32–0 victory by the U16s. Both teams showcased structured attacking play and resolute defence, leaving Roodepark with little opportunity to respond.

The senior fixtures saw no let-up in intensity. The second team produced one of the most emphatic results of the day, running in a 59–0 victory in a match dominated from start to finish.

The first team capped off a near-perfect outing with a convincing 50–10 win, combining powerful forward play with sharp backline movement to round off an impressive evening of rugby.

Captain of the first team, Lwandile Ntuli, said it felt good to bounce back with a win after their last defeat.

“To be able to play this game in front of our home support under the lights is a great honour and privilege,” he said.

Vice-captain Sakhile Mhlongo echoed his sentiment, highlighting the importance of maintaining consistency.

“Our coaches are always drilling the importance of discipline and consistency in the game, so this win is just a start of things to come as we aim to reach the finals again this year,” he said.

The results reflect the growing strength and depth within the Jan Viljoen rugby structures, with all teams displaying cohesion, discipline and attacking flair. Such across-the-board success highlights the school’s continued development and competitiveness in schoolboy rugby.
