Teine first team holds top spot after Wits thriller

Randfontein Rugby Club remained unbeaten at the top of the log after their first team secured a tense 28–24 victory over Wits Rugby Club.

Randfontein Rugby Club delivered a mixed set of results in their latest fixtures against Wits Rugby Club, with the first team’s hard-fought victory ensuring they remain unbeaten and top of the log standings.

It was a challenging outing for the junior sides. The U19 team suffered a heavy 45–0 defeat, while the U21 side narrowly lost 14–8 to Raiders Rugby Club in a tightly contested match.

The senior teams produced stronger performances. The third team secured an impressive 38–12 win over Wits, displaying disciplined rugby and a sharp attacking edge throughout the encounter. The second team battled hard but went down 26–14 despite a spirited effort.

The highlight of the day came from the first team, who edged Wits 28–24 in a thrilling clash. Tries were scored by Barend Steyn, Ruan du Toit, Morne Pieterse, and Tiaan Naude, while Keagan Fortune added four successful conversions to seal the victory.

The win sees Randfontein maintain their position at the top of the standings with five consecutive victories this season.

They will aim to extend their unbeaten run when they host Diggers at Greenhills Stadium on Saturday.
