Phepheng edge Manchester United in seven-goal thriller

A fast start, a spirited comeback and a late winner made for an unforgettable afternoon of local football.

Spectators at the Randfontein High School sports ground were treated to a thrilling seven-goal encounter on July 7, as Phepheng FC from Afri Village defeated Randfontein Manchester United FC 4–3 with a dramatic late winner.

Phepheng FC made a strong start, dominating the opening stages of the match and capitalising on their momentum. Their clinical finishing saw them race into a commanding 3–0 lead, leaving Manchester United with a daunting task.

Despite the early setback, the Randfontein side refused to give up. Showing resilience and determination, Manchester United fought their way back into the contest, scoring three goals to level the match at 3–3. The equaliser came when Thandolwethu Mgoqi converted a late penalty, reviving hopes of a remarkable comeback.

Just as it appeared the match was heading for a draw, Phepheng struck again in the closing moments. They found the back of the net to secure a dramatic 4–3 victory and deny Manchester United a share of the points.

Phepheng’s player of the match, Onkabetse Tshoketsi, said: “It feels great to have won the game, and being able to score twice and help the team felt amazing.”

Winning captain Ayanda Foloti echoed those sentiments, saying the team showed character by managing the closing stages well and ultimately securing the victory.
