Hockey duo earns regional honours

Their achievement highlights the growing hockey talent emerging from Randfontein Primary School.

Young hockey players Koketso Mabitsi and Boikanyo Modisane from Randfontein Primary School proudly represented their school as part of the D2 hockey team at the U13 Regional Hockey Tournament held in Middelburg earlier in July.

The tournament brought together talented young players from various regions, providing a competitive platform for developing athletes to showcase their skills. It forms part of the broader schools’ hockey structure in South Africa, where learners are given opportunities to compete and develop their abilities from a young age.

Mabitsi and Modisane were among the players selected to represent the D2 team, highlighting their dedication, hard work and commitment to the sport. Selection for regional teams is typically based on players’ performance, discipline and potential.

Throughout the week-long tournament, the team competed against strong opposition, gaining valuable experience and exposure.

Events such as these not only help players develop their technical skills but also encourage teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship.

Their participation is a proud achievement for Randfontein Primary School as the pair continues to grow in the sport while representing both their school and community on the regional stage.
