A 12-year-old learner from Laerskool Westgold Primary School is making his mark on the rugby field after being selected to represent the Golden Lions U12 team.

Nkosingiphile Moss discovered his passion for rugby at the age of nine. Since then, his love for the sport has continued to grow, fuelled by the teamwork, discipline and camaraderie it teaches.

“What I love most about rugby is the teamwork, discipline, and the way everyone works together to achieve one goal,” he said.

Moss plays flank, wearing the number six jersey, a position he enjoys because it allows him to be involved in every aspect of the game.

“I like being involved in the game, supporting my teammates, and competing for the ball,” he explained.

His growth as a player has been guided by dedicated coaches who recognised his potential from an early age. Moss credits his first coach with identifying his talent and helping him develop, while also acknowledging the ongoing support of his current school coaches.

“My first coach played a big role in my rugby journey by recognising my talent at a young age. My current school coaches have also helped me grow and improve as a player,” he said.

Like many young rugby players, Moss looks up to Springbok captain Siya Kolisi, whose leadership and determination continue to inspire him.

“He inspires me with his leadership, hard work, and the way he motivates others on and off the field,” he added.

Being selected for the Golden Lions U12 team marks an important milestone in his rugby journey and brings him one step closer to his dream of becoming a professional player.

“I would like to represent my team and community with pride,” he said.

When he is not on the rugby field, Moss enjoys spending time with family and friends, staying active and taking time to relax, maintaining a healthy balance while pursuing his sporting ambitions.

His selection is a testament to his hard work and commitment and also highlights Laerskool Westgold Primary School’s role in developing promising young sporting talent.
