Proud season, painful exit: Teine’s Gold Cup dream ends in Pretoria

Teine pushed Naka Bulle to the limit in a 45–37 thriller, capping off a remarkable season that also saw them finish as runners-up in the Golden Lions Rugby Union (GLRU) Grand Challenge.

Randfontein Rugby Club’s Gold Cup campaign came to an end following a hard-fought 45–37 defeat against Naka Bulle Rugby Club in their quarter-final clash in Pretoria on October 10.

The match was highly competitive, with both sides matching each other’s intensity in a contest that kept the visitors in contention. However, Naka Bulle made the most of their opportunities to edge out Teine and secure their place in the next round.

Keagan Fortune added three conversions and two penalties to Teine’s tally of 37 points as the team continued to fight until the final whistle.

Formidable season comes to an end

The defeat brings an end to a formidable season for the Randfontein side, which has consistently demonstrated its competitiveness against strong opposition.

In August, Teine finished as runners-up in the Golden Lions Rugby Union (GLRU) Grand Challenge, capping off an impressive campaign before turning their attention to the Gold Cup, where they progressed to the quarter-finals.

Although their national cup journey ended in Pretoria, the team can reflect on a season characterised by determination, resilience and strong performances.

Representing Randfontein, the players have done their town proud, flying its flag high through their efforts in both competitions.

While the Gold Cup exit will undoubtedly be disappointing, Teine’s achievements throughout the season provide a solid foundation for the club to build on in future campaigns.
