Woman skips stop street and slams into another car

She made the assumption that it was her turn to pass.

A 49-year-old woman caused a major accident when she skipped a stop sign and slammed into another vehicle on 19 July on the corner of Village Street and Johnston Street.

According to Randfontein Traffic Chief Kenny Mampondo, the woman was travelling from the direction of Village Square Mall in a Maroon Renualt Megane and the driver of the Hyndui was traveling from the direction of Kenneth Road when the incident occurred.

“Initially the woman stopped at the stop sign and allowed for the first car to pass.

“Thinking that it was a four way stop, she proceeded to pass thinking that it was her turn.

“However this was incorrect and she should have taken more care than just to pull away into the traffic,” says Mampondo.

He adds that the accident was unfortunate and could have been avoided.

He urges motorist to be extra careful when crossing the road and not to make assumptions at any point.

“This is one of the many contributing factors of accidents across the country and people need to start practicing the principle of rather being safe than sorry,” says Mampondo.
