Randfontein Gouefees kicks off in spectacular style

Opening night of the Randfontein Gouefees dazzled with spirited pom-pom performances and lively music from Eloff.

Day one of the Randfontein Gouefees got off to a lively start as thousands of residents streamed onto the festival grounds for the much-anticipated opening night.

The vibrant atmosphere set the tone for a weekend of celebration, culture and community spirit.

Festivalgoers were greeted by the aroma of sizzling boerewors and flame-grilled burgers. Freshly made pancakes and other favourites were on offer, while colourful stalls lined the grounds, selling handmade crafts, clothing and sweet treats.

andfontein’s very own singer, Tanya V, took to the stage as MC, keeping the crowd entertained throughout.

The main stage quickly became the focal point of the evening. Tanya V kept the programme running smoothly as MC before the high school pom-pom (cheerleading) competition took centre stage. Learners representing local schools, including Randfontein High School, Hoërskool Jan Viljoen and Hoërskool Riebeeckrand, impressed the crowd with energetic, well-rehearsed routines.

The teams earned loud applause and enthusiastic support throughout the evening. J-Squad from Hoërskool Jan Viljoen claimed first place, walking away with R10 000, while runners-up Hoërskool Riebeeckrand received R5 000.

Organisers have promised an exciting line-up for the rest of the weekend, with several well-known performers still set to take the stage. Crowd favourite Eloff kept the momentum going after the competition, with parents and children singing along to his popular hits.

Younger visitors were also well catered for.

A dedicated children’s entertainment area featured jumping castles, face painting and funfair rides, keeping little ones busy while parents browsed the stalls or relaxed in designated seating areas.

The Randfontein Gouefees once again highlighted the strong sense of unity within the community. Safety was prioritised, with law enforcement and private security maintaining a visible presence throughout the day.

With two more days ahead, the opening night confirmed why this annual celebration remains a highlight on the town’s social calendar.

Residents can look forward to a packed programme of activities on Saturday and Sunday.
