Take a look at this checklist of essentials when experiencing load shedding.
Load shedding is the new reality for South Africans everywhere. Power utility Eskom has announced that load shedding was here to stay and that the power supply was running dangerously low.
A low number of power stations and bad quality coal were among the reasons many of us had four hours of darkness daily this week.

Eskom has however provided consumers with tips to make your life a little easier during load shedding. The key is planning ahead, and staying ahead of the frustration.
“Electricity is extremely helpful in our everyday lives – but sometimes it can go wrong and you are left with a power failure. It is important to know what to do and what to look for should this happen to you,” the power utility said in a statement.
When the power goes off, remember:
· Always keep children away from lit candles, plugs or power sockets.
· Invest in a small LP gas heating ring to prepare food and boil water.
· Always have battery operated torches in cupboards around the house that you can easily find in the dark.
