Child and two others shot in attempted Olievenhoutbosch mall robbery
One of the armed men was attacked and beaten by shoppers.
Three people, including a child, were shot during an attempted robbery at a shopping centre in Olievenhoutbosch, Centurion, on Thursday afternoon.
A five-year-old, a 35-year-old woman, and a security guard suffered gunshot wounds after two men allegedly tried to rob a store inside the Olievenhoutbosch Plaza just before 18:00.
Two armed men entered the shop as staff members were cashing up, according to Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst.
“As the men were shuffling the people inside the store to one side to rob them of their cellphones and personal belongings, the child got a fright and ran,” said Herbst.

Herbst said the woman, a next-door neighbour of the child, rushed after her and this was when the men opened fire.
“One of the armed men was attacked and beaten by shoppers.
“All three patients were treated on scene and, once stabilised, transported to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries,” he said.
Chief executive officer at Scorpion Risk Services, Riaan Erasmus said they were called to the scene after receiving calls on the armed robbery.
“One of the men was apprehended by Olievenhoutbosch police.
“He was arrested and taken to the station,” Erasmus said.
Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said a case of business robbery and one of attempted murder was opened but could not provide further details.
The Olievenhoutbosch Plaza could not be reached for comment by the time of publication.
