Nominations open for the UN Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela prize
South Africans are urged to enter.
The United Nations (UN) has called on South Africans to enter for the inaugural United Nations Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela prize.
It is the first time the prize will recognise two individuals who have shown outstanding achievements and contributions in their communities.
“The prize shall be awarded in recognition of their dedicated service to humanity, in the promotion of reconciliation and social cohesion, and in community development, guided by the purposes and principles of the United Nations,” Helene Roedl of the United Nations information centre, said.
The award will be presented to two people every five years and will be in the form of a plaque engraved with a quote suitable for the recipients, to be decided by the UN committee.
Interested individuals can download an entry form here and submit it before 18 May.
