Two learners arrested for drugs in Silverton
"I'm not selling. I only have dagga for my personal use because tomorrow it’s my birthday."
Two learners were arrested at a Silverton school on Thursday morning for possession of drugs.
Police spokesperson Captain Jan Sepato said: “We acted after members of the school safety programme gave us a tip-off about two ‘naughty’ learners believed to be selling drugs.
“Upon arrival, police conducted a search and found two 19-year-olds in possession of dagga. One dagga concealed in a pill container, while the other one, who is the dealer, was carrying a Tupperware container with zip lock bags filled with dagga,” he said.

Sepato said the street value of the dagga found was around R600.
About R185 in cash was also found and it is believed to be sales receipts, he said
When asked why they were selling drugs, one of the learners alleged the drugs were not intended to be sold to anyone.
“I’m not selling dagga in school. I only have it for me because tomorrow it’s my birthday and we are planning to smoke. I only bought it this morning to show them,” one of the learners reportedly claimed.
Sepato said the two matriculants were expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
“As the Silverton police, we call upon other schools to intensify their relationship with us so that our children can keep their hands off drugs.
Parents are urged to take responsibility in ensuring that children are not involved in any form of criminality.
