NEWSFLASH: Wapadrand substation up in flames
The fire has caused power outages affecting Equestria, Silverlakes, Wapadrand, Faerie Glen and Olympus.
A fire broke out at the Wapadrand substation on Tuesday morning, leaving certain areas of Pretoria east without power.
Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo confirmed that a fire broke out at around 10:00 and said the cause was still unknown and subject to investigation.
He said the fire had, as a result, caused power outages affecting Equestria, Silver Lakes, Wapadrand, Faerie Glen, Lombardy, Tierpoort and Olympus.
“We have dispatched technicians and currently the metro’s emergency services are on the scene putting out the fire,” said Mashigo.
Ward 44 councillor Ernst Botha requested patience from residents while the firefighters fought the flames in order to give the rest of the technicians access to the station so they could work on restoring power.
