Should Sundowns win their next game on Saturday against Free State Stars, they could defend their title pending a PSL appeal.
Sundowns were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player (Wayne Arendse) during their match against Bidvest Wits in October last year.
Many reports suggested the disciplinary committee could take points away from the Pretoria club, but last week, the committee announced that Sundowns would only be fined.
This week, however, news broke out that PSL was appealing against the ruling of the disciplinary committee in the Arendse saga.
In 2017, Downs had a similar problem where they were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player during their MultiChoice Diski Challenge match.
Sundowns’ Thabang Sibanyoni was fielded against Chippa United despite the player having accumulated four yellow cards which called for a suspension.

Following Downs’ win against Arrows, Mosimane said his side could have killed the game earlier.
“We had the spirit, we had the tactics and second half we just had to manage the game. Six games in 21 days is not child’s play. With the travelling and all that it’s unbelievable. These boys, they have the passion, hey. They just keep on going.
“But you can see they are not there in the final 20 minutes. We need to kill the game earlier,” Mosimane said after the game.
Sundowns could finish the season on 59 points, one short of what they reached in the 2017/18 season.
“It’s good for them, the supporters. If we can match last year’s record it will be unbelievable,” he said.
