Tshwane police chief Major General Samuel Thine promotes 23 SAPS officers

Newly promoted SAPS officers take up leadership roles in visible policing, detective services and human resources across Tshwane.

Tshwane District Commissioner of police Major General Samuel Thine presided over a ceremony to present rank insignia to 23 newly promoted SAPS members within the Tshwane District.

The ceremony took place on Friday, October 9, when eight members were promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and 15 to the rank of Captain.
Leadership roles assigned

Police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk said the promotions see the officers taking up leadership and management responsibilities within Visible Policing, Detective Services and Human Resource Management.

He said the members are expected to strengthen operations and improve service delivery.

Addressing the newly promoted members, Major General Thine congratulated them on their achievements and reminded them that promotion comes with greater responsibility.

Call for integrity and service

He emphasised that commanders must lead by example, maintain discipline and ensure that members under their command perform their duties professionally.

Thine stressed the importance of fighting corruption, holding members accountable and ensuring that the safety and needs of the community remain a priority.

“I encourage the officers to approach their new responsibilities with dedication and commitment, and they are reminded that leadership is about more than wearing a higher rank,” he said.

Thine said members must set the right example, support their members and take responsibility for performance in their respective environments.
Commitment to the community

He urged them to remain firm in upholding discipline, to treat members fairly and to lead with integrity in every situation.

Thine further said the newly promoted commanders need to work together, support one another and never lose sight of the reason they joined the Service — to serve and protect the people of South Africa.

He expressed confidence that they would use their new positions to make a positive difference, strengthen the Tshwane District and ensure that the SAPS continues to serve the community with professionalism, dedication and pride.
